Better late than never

So this is going to be a real short post since it’s already close to midnight and I’m really tired. I left the place where I stayed for the night a bit past 10 after enjoying the view one last time…

After I rode the road back downhill I hit the Slovenian back country roads. For the next 2 hours I’ve seen more hills and 10 million trees (a rough estimation, I didn’t actually count them). The only notable part of my trip was around Ptuj, which had a bicycle race today and had half of the city locked down. Sadly, it was exactly the half I had to travel through, so I spend approximately 40 minutes trying to find a route around it.

Compared to Slovenia, where I had to check my map every 10 minutes to make sure I’m not accidentally taking a wrong road, Austria was very helpful. Nearly every city had the town I wanted to go to written on the signs, with distance and direction.

I arrived at my destination in the middle of the afternoon. I was welcomed by friends to their house with an absolutely beautiful garden. I’ll post some pictures tomorrow. We quickly went to a neighbor who brews his own beer and picked up a few bottles and spent the rest of the evening eating, talking and drinking beer.

There is one thing I still have to mention though. And that is a huge one for me: This has been the very first day since I left Switzerland where I didn’t have any rain (hence the title). The temperatures were even in the high 20s! I almost forgot how it feels to ride with that weather… :)

Tomorrow will be a longer post, with lots more pictures again. Promised!
